Well, when a book by the name the same as one of my cousins showed up in kebooks.com newsletter--and being science fiction--I definitely had to take a chance. (even though my cousin is old enough to be the author's grandfather) :)The premise for how technology is used is interesting and is explained in the 2-page Preface--in one sentence. The author is big on long, technical descriptions and long sentences. For those who really want the Full Detail of what the places and items look like, this is your book. For me though, having been a sci-fi nut for over 50 years (I love most of Asimov's books and that Childhood's End movie was not as upbeat as I felt the book was IMHO), I had to take this book in bites over a two+ week period. Now I do love details instead of things just 'being there' or 'being used' with no real rationale behind them, but for me, this level of detail was just too much. There is plenty enough description that you could draw on paper (or computer) the entire areas where the story takes place. But you don't really have to since there is a (small) color map of the primary areas in one of the several helpful appendices. For you, it detail level may be just fine.
I would definitely suggest clicking the "Look Inside" to get a feel for his long commentary and also several of the acronyms that are liberally sprayed throughout the book, definitely a military novel. :) This is not a lighthearted read for those times you just want to pass some time.

Indigo 99 Collusion Book 1 eBook Pat Kelley Reviews
Good story that keeps you turning the pages, nice job creating a believable universe with believable characters. Hopefully there will be more from Kelley.
I couldn't put this book down. Besides a thrill-ride storyline amid beautiful planetary settings, the author vividly describes engineering details of spacecraft and machinery throughout the book. I really liked the story's gutsy and spirited heroine. And I was amazed by the author's genius and imagination.
I enjoyed this book and hope to follow future works from this new author. The setting is futuristic, yet realistic. The descriptions are fascinating and believable. I also enjoyed following the female protagonist's adventures.
I didn't understand half of what I read, but the author was able to give you a picture through words that helped me. Kind of hard at first and then it became action packed and had enough humor to keep you smiling. The humor kind of sneaks in and your pulled into the book. Very well written and if there is ever a zombie or alien attack, I wand this guy on my side. Lol
I hate giving negative reviews but after thinking about it I can't think of a single positive thing to say. Not a one. Disjointed, jumpy, poorly contrived story telling coupled with a horrible lack of knowledge of military operations or protocol and direct contradictions. A tiny moon with enough gravity to hold a breathable atmosphere, said moon is in a constant state of "autum" but oak, maple and other trees are fully leaved, etc. How earth trees got there is never explained. How they grow in autumn is, well it's just ridiculous. And sad to say, ridiculous domes up the entire book.
Some science is well described but much is left out. Absolute lack of knowledge of any kind of military protocol. If you don't know about something either research and learn it or figure out another way to tell the story. This book seems to need a really good story editor. It reads and feels like a first book or an attempt at what would be a great story if told correctly. I am not sure about reading the next in the series. Good luck to the author in the future.
The book had a plot, but didn't really end. The long convoluted sentences with mixed dependent and independent clauses shifted the meaning of the text in so many ways that the read didn't have a clue what they meant. Now throw in a bunch of weird unrelated words that didn't fit the scene and you have a book heading for a black hole. Please, please take some creative writing classes that explain that just because you know a big word that can be twisted to fit a sentence doesn't mean you should use it. If a simple word will do then don't use a BEASTLY one. A writing partner or critique group willing to help point out mistakes and things that knock the reader spinning out of the story line would benefit this author.
