This was a unique story and I liked it. There's also a lot packed into the story, so I felt like it was definitely worth the $2.99 price. This is not a book that can be skimmed quickly, because sometimes there are very important details only mentioned in one or two sentences. Some things in the story are written a little confusing, like why King Gol continues to allow Prince Edric to believe he's done bad things, or how Abby ends up in Caern's possession after the battle in Kharvik, but overall it is an engaging, entertaining story. I particularly liked how Abby starts out as a kind of bumbling, confused secretary and then develops into a kickass leader.Tags : Kingdom Come - Kindle edition by Devi Mara. Kingdom Come edition by Devi Mara Romance eBooks Reviews
I think Devi Mara yet again hit this one out of the park. I love romance novels, okay let me also say even though I loved the book and I could see she was trying to make the female character a strong leading character which I fully support there were moments when she just outright annoyed me. There were times when I paused and thought wait what because it seemed like the main character and her actions just did not completely match. She went from being shy and reclusive to being a bad ass and a seductress in the blink of an eye. However I was still able to suspend by belief for the most part and enjoy the story my favorite character was Edric. He was sweet and he made you want to root for him to be with his mate. The twist was also pretty nice it made for a nice surprise.
It was cute, not sure if I'd recommend it to a friend. The toughest thing for me to get through were the separate points of view...entire scenes were rehashed again through the opposing character's eyes. This style made what could have been an entertaining book a bit tedious. Fortunately, this only happened through roughly the first half. However, I was distracted during the remainder of the book, wondering if I'd have to read what I just read all over again through another character.
There are a few editing misses, but the story is an overall good one that is told very well. There are some repetitive phrases (he cocked his head to one side), but overlook that and look at the story. I would love to see a sequel, with the rest of the story. It was left very open with a lot if answered questions about the future. Not a cliffhanger, but it could definitely have another book written. The characters were likeable and the heroine was definitely not weak and submissive. Overall it was a good read that I truly enjoyed. Very light in the sex department...it happens, it's just not very descriptive (not a bad thing at all).
There's a lot to be said for consistency and I have to say I agree with some of the reviews I read before I read this book (note - the reviews didn't put me off or give too much away). The female protagonist started off as a bit of a klutz so I couldn't understand some of her choices in life - like modelling, (model's can generally put one foot in front of another without falling over) she wasn't a kick ass kinda girl until the (spoiler - not like you didn't see this coming) hunting and kidnapping. Then she becomes totally confident, badass and a sex kitten, like she had a personality transplant. it would have been cool(er) if she had been like that from the beginning. I enjoyed the story and the characters especially the lead male (swoon).
A one-off tale with real promise. Unfortunately, by the end of the book I felt rushed through a story which may have worked better as a trilogy. Abi's honest bewilderment was very intriguing, and I wish that Ms. Mara had taken more time to let the story unfold rather than having all sorts of sudden revelations which Abi just accepts rather than processes and comes to terms with. I also would have liked more information or background about the different alien cultures as this may have given some of the story twists more context. I'd love to read more stories from this new world she has created. One stylistic point - if you're going to tell a story from two points of view it's helpful to name whose voice you're using to avoid confusion.
I became a fan of Devi Mara after reading her debut book No Light. I loved that original book so much that when I realized she had another book out I had to buy it. And I'm glad I did )
Abigail Ashley has finally gotten the break she needed. Somehow she has managed to get a job working for the President of the United States as his administrative assistant. What she never expected is that she would have interactions with aliens, and not the south of the border kind. For some reason she can not explain she is instantly drawn to Prince Edric from the moment she sets eyes on him. She doesn't understand why she keeps getting thrown into situations where its her job to entertain him.
Prince Edric, acting as the Ambassador of the Ghadrik, has agreed to meet with the US for one reason and one reason only.... to meet his arammu. His soul-mate. After searching for years he finally has her in his sights and he will do anything he has to to convince her to accept his courtship.
I was intrigued for several reasons. First the actual story line was different. I liked that the alien line were matriarchal. That most of the woman from Prince Edric's planet were warrior woman and could take care of themselves. It added so much depth to the book. I loved that Abby was such a strong character. Even with all the confusion of everything going on around her she still stood up for herself. I fell in love with Edric from the beginning. He was so sweet with Abby. Willing to do anything to prove to her he was a worthy mate.
Even though this is a standalone I'm hoping that we get another book. Maybe one about the next ruler of Raena (hint hint).
