As you might expect from the title, this book is a hoot. There’s a subtitle, “With supporting documents,” which is significant. Angus Cairns is a brownie, Scots born and bred, who has for much of his life been bound by a curse (which wasn’t at all bother-some) to Sarah McGonnagall. But on her deathbed she tells him that when she’s gone the curse will bind him to the youngest female descendant of Ewan McGonnagal over the age of ten. Ewan was a grandfather or great-grandfather of Sarah’s who had been the original target of the curse, along with Angus’s father. And the girl to whom Angus is bound is Alexandra “Alex” Carhart, whose great-grandparents had emigrated to America. So Angus has to find his way to America, and from there to where Alex lives, and he doesn’t have a long time to do it. With the aid of some magic he makes it, only to find out that (a) Alex is a girl who likes to live in a messy room, so she’s not pleased at all when Angus obeys his brownie instincts and does his best to keep it clean and tidy, and (b) Alex has a father and an older brother living in the house, and the curse falls on them in a different way. Angus is a good-hearted fellow, but he’d never experienced the latter part of the curse, Sarah having been a maiden lady, and it has serious ramifications. And the only way to lift the curse entails returning what Ewan had taken from the land of the Fair Folk to them—which in turn entails figuring out what that was, and then getting it back to Scotland. It’s the kind of delightful romp that Coville does so well.

My 10 year old loved the book.
This audiobook was a BLAST! Listened to it in the car with my 12 year old, and we were both laughing at the fun. So creative and imaginative, and just a delight. The main actor was awesome, and overall the casting was spot on. You cannot go wrong listening to this one on your next family road trip. Now the only problem is, I want a Brownie of my own!
My wife fist found this book while looking for Christmas gifts for my nephew. She purchased the print edition for him. I liked the book description enough that I had a sample sent to my . After reading the sample on my I immediately bought the full book for myself. I found this book a delightful read for any age range (myself being and adult). There was a good mix of traditional folk lore and modern day. The story is easy to read and flows nicely. I defiantly recommend this book.
