I read this tale when it was included in an anthology, A Winter's Enchantment - a mesmerizing assortment of three festive holiday fantasy novellas penned by authors who were all new to me at the time I picked it up. Anthologies are normally hard for me to review as it’s difficult to assign one rating to a collection where I normally feel differently about the included stories. Happily, that was not the case with this anthology, as I absolutely loved each of the stories and didn’t want to put any of them down once I'd started reading them.TAMING FATE
"He would make her laugh every night that they made love. He would make love to her once for every time she giggled.
She burst into laughter then, and he grinned.
"That's one."

For the first time in her many lives, Eve would rather be anywhere but home.
This is a brilliantly imaginative story about one of Eve’s lives as the Marquise DeLeon in 15th Century France.
I have been horribly remiss in writing my review of this wonderful set of stories as this was truly a magical, beautifully written, paranormal collection - one that I would read again. I hope to check out other works by these same authors soon!

The story of Adam and Eve continues in this short novella that gives the reader much insight into the story of how Eve's marriage to the Marquis deLeon was so wonderful. While Adam is not in this story he is still there as a threat in the background. This novella mainly lets the reader see how far some goddesses will go for revenge and how others will go to save her people. As always this author wrote a story that completely drew me in and I did not stop reading until the story was finished. The characters are well rounded and beautifully written along with the world painted to seem completely real.
This story really gave me a lot of insight into Eve and her personality. She is always talking about how the Marquis was such a dear husband in earlier books but it seems their marriage got off to a rocky start. I enjoyed reading how this came to be and showed just how much interaction Eve has with the other gods without knowing. While I am anxious to see how this series ends I am also sad to see it end. I have enjoyed how the author is able to weave the different gods and goddesses into one story that involves the continuing tale of Adam and Eve.
One thing I am curious about is will the reader get a novella dedicated to Adam? Perhaps right after he gets his memory back? He is a read-worthy villain!!
*I received this novella free from the author in exchange for an honest review.*
This is one of my favorite incarnations of Eve. It would be harsh and difficult to live as a woman in Medieval Europe no matter the circumstances, but for Eve who has experienced so many previous lives where she enjoyed freedom, it was nearly unbearable. I love how she tries to be honest and true to herself but in this time period, women can't really be this way without paying a high price. I'm so pleased that this is one of the eras the author decided to show us through Eve's eyes. I can't say much more without being spoilery, but it's an intense and wonderful novella and I highly recommend!
Note This book is a novella meant to go between books 2 and 3, Fate Forgotten and Beyond Fate. I have yet to read either of these, so my review is based on this novella as a standalone.
When I first picked up this novel, I had no idea what to think of it except for the one short description above. But from that alone, it definitely sounded worthy my time. And honestly, I really enjoyed this novella. Overall, there were a few parts that were lagging to me, but for the most part, I was thoroughly engaged and interested to find out how everything would turn out in the end.
Eve is my absolute favorite kind of character. She doesn't take crap from anybody (not even her husband) and always stands true to her beliefs -- even when the whole world is asking her to change. Her commitment to serving others is extraordinary and I believe it to be truly authentic to her character. She's lovable and strong-willed. Her husband, Ryam....not so much. He spends a lot of time caring about what other people think and how his honor will be affected. He has a lot of ideas on what a "wife" should and shouldn't do, and let's just say, he should've thought of that before he married Eve! Watching their relationship grow and change is so fascinating to me.
I guess the reason parts of this book are just "okay" for me is because I don't think it should be read as a standalone. There were bits and pieces that I'm positive would have made a lot more sense had I known the background of all our characters. That being said, I would absolute recommend reading the entire series (I certainly plan to!). I think the idea of Adam and Eve being brother and sister, the idea of Thor and other Gods running around, the idea of the Catholic Church trying to force everyone into their own way of thinking -- all happening at the same time -- there's so much going on! I can't wait to read more by Amalia Dillin. Definitely worth the read!
4 out of 5 stars!
