At the heart of this book about angels and demons are the complex characters and their relationships with each other. I've read many books by Joy Nash, and this is what she does best.
While the story line is dark and brooding, it is sprinkled with liberal doses of wit and humor, and the characters are multi-dimensional. Complicated backstory is handled deftly, so even though there is a lot going on, plot-wise, I never felt lost.
The protagonist, Arthur Camalus, is a descendent of Merlin, and hopes to inherit his ancestor's magic so he can defeat the current leader of the Druid clan, Mab. Mab has been gathering power by guiding dormant Nephilim through their Ordeals (a kind of coming of age for them that releases their powers) and then holding them in her thrall to harness their magic. She had hoped to do the same with Arthur until he went rogue, pitting the two against each other for the power of the clan, and setting the stage for an epic battle.
Quite a unique story line, mixing mystery,fantasy, angels & demons. Highly recommend these books & this author.Really enjoyed this book!
