This series never gets tired. The main characters, Andy Hall, Jane Francis, Abla Kahn, and Ian Mann continue to be interesting individually and compelling as a group. This is a pretty interesting conundrum this time out as a suicide may or not be what it seems. There is a side bar thread with Ian Mann pinching a small time crook over and over again that neatly ties into the main story. The strength of this series seems, to me, to be the consistent character development of each of the primary movers. Each is true to the character as previously portrayed, and that settles into a nice revisit for readers. However, each case is not a cookie cutter, and the author goes to great pains, it seems, to engage the reader in another very interesting case. I, for one, will continue to follow this author whether this series or other. It's so nice to have well edited, well proofed material hand-in-hand with an excellent story line. Remarkable series, well written though poorly edited. I normally don't read a book that has less than 200 to 300 pages, but this author has a great ability to put together a great plot and engage the reader with the characters - and even add a continuing theme on the 'state of policing in today's world' in a very short space of time. Each segment very complete and satisfying. Glad I happened upon them!
DEATH BECOMES HIM did not rise to expected excellent standards from J J SALKELD. The unexplained changes interupted the continuity between books resulting in a storyline that felt forced. Consequently, confusion overshadowed throughout, which was a major distraction. One additional chapter was all that was necessary to maintain a natural transition from the previous book.
Well, I'm confused! I have been reading the Lakeland series in order and the one before this book had Andy Hall retired - now all of a sudden, he's back on the job and only as a DI? And Grace is 3 years old? What did I miss? Please someone help me understand this! That being said, the book is a good read but I do have to reiterate another reviewer's comment - editing is very poor. Whomever proofreads these books does the author an injustice. Good series though!
Lakeland murder series is quite entertaining. Characters are well described, as is the local folk. Read all of them!!

I gave this book five stars because all of J J Salkeld writes is a five. If you like good books read all he writes.
I've read every novel in the Andy Hall/Jane Francis series and for me this installment was pedestrian - just a so-so read.
